Fantasy, Hilarity, & Amore: Just another Night at the Opera!

The Hub Opera Ensemble is pleased to announce its 2012-2013 season!

Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute)
Sung in German with English dialogue and supertitles.
Philosophy and Feathers: just another night at the opera.
It's a bird! It's a man! It's Papageno, and he's desperate for some wine and a girlfriend. His new friend, the Prince Tamino, has set out to rescue Pamina (herself the daughter of the Queen of the Night) who has been abducted and stashed away in a temple by Sarastro (the Priest of the Sun). Tamino is intent on dragging Papageno along for the adventure, and the fidgety fowl is proving to be quite the nuisance. Armed with some magical musical instruments, can these two really achieve their goals in a world where nothing is quite as it seems and enlightenment only comes to those willing to risk their very lives for it? Come find out in Mozart's fun, fizzy fairy tale, The Magic Flute.

Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos in concert.
Sung in German with English supertitles.

January 26, 2013 - One Night Only!

Stranded on a rock with a horde of comedians? Just another night at the opera.
It's not often you get to see greek tragedy and burlesque performed on the same stage. You'd never expect to see them performed simultaneously. But when a dinner party runs long and the night's entertainment has to be curtailed, a young composer's masterpiece is suddenly overrun by a troupe of slapstick comedians. Come see this madcap mashup that would make the whole cast of Glee green with envy.

Mozart's Don Giovanni
Sung in Italian with English supertitles.

Opens May 24, 2013 with additional performances to be scheduled.

Two thousand sixty-five lovers: quite a few nights at the opera!
Attempted rape, murder, forced-abduction, and adultery: a day (yes, just one) in the life of Don Giovanni. But before you go thinking he's all fun and games, remember that this man works hard at weaving an intricate web of lies and deceit that would make even the most skilled politician cringe. Did we mention that this is a comedy? Come explore Mozart's dark sense of humor in what is widely considered the best opera ever written: Don Giovanni.
